Position Senior Systems Engineer / System Engineering Manager (PAI-SE)

PAI is seeking the talents, experience, and commitment of a senior system Engineer / System Engineering Manager to join our Kingston, Ontario Office, and to work in the Transportation sector.    
 

Assignments

The Systems Engineer / Manager will be involved in multiple assignments that could for example include:

  • Development of System Engineering plans, processes and project deliverables on behalf of our Clients.
  • Support to Car-builders or Transit System suppliers in the delivery of System Engineering documentation and analyses.
  • Support to Transit Authorities or their consultants in the review and assessment of System Engineering documentation from Car-builders or Transit System suppliers.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure work products, including plans, analyses and models meet stated and implicit technical requirements
  • Ability to manage a variety of independent assignments
  • Able and willing to travel internationally
Requirements

The successful candidate shall possess the following combination of education, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
  • 10+ years of Rail/Transit Systems Experience with familiarity in all System Engineering disciplines at a senior level including:
    • Experienced in the application of System Engineering practices in the Transit industry.
    • Experienced in the field of reliability, availability and maintainability, and able to develop a RAM plan.
    • Experienced in system safety including familiarity with CENELEC Standards 50126, 50128 and 50129, and MIL-STD-882.
    • Experienced in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility and able to develop an EMC plan and oversee an EMC study.
    • Ability to develop life-cycle-cost analyses
    • Experienced in Requirements Management and Requirements Analysis
    • Experienced in Risk Management and Risk Analysis
    • Ability to supervise other system Engineers in various fields (RAMS, EMC/EMI etc.) and review their work.
    • Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary transit environment, and be able to identify and understand issues and risks within such an environment.
    • Must have the experience to work comfortably within a client’s System Engineering organisation either in a review and audit role or as a part of the team.
  • Professional Engineering license (P. Eng), or the ability to obtain certification or equivalent classification
  • Strong analytical skills including mathematics and statistics
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office and especially Word, Visio, Excel and Access
  • Familiar with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORSTM)
  • Effective verbal communication including listening and speaking skills
  • Effective written presentation and communication skills and the ability to guide others in the preparation of required analyses or reports
  • Able to develop and present technical papers on the subject, or specific aspects of RAMS
  • Membership on transit or System Engineering related working groups or committees an asset
  • Post graduate degree an asset
  • Second language an asset

  • Support to Transit Authorities or their consultants in the review and assessment of Systems Assurance documentation from Car-builders or Transit System suppliers.

Requirements

The successful candidate shall possess the following combination of education, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
  • Minimum of 5 years of Rail/Transit Systems Experience (10+ years preferable) with familiarity in all RAMS disciplines at a senior level including:
    • Experienced in the application of CENELEC Standards 50126, 50128 and 50129 within a full project lifecycle from planning, execution and delivery, to system acceptance.
    • Similarly experienced in the application of MIL-STD-882.
    • Ability to develop the various plans required by MIL-STD-882 in support of clients.
    • Ability to develop the necessary reliability and availability models and analyses required by such plans, or support our clients in the delivery of such.
    • Ability to analyse failure modes and effects, develop fault trees and make recommendations on the mitigation strategy and close out of hazards to an acceptable level with the implementation of a hazard tracking database.
    • Ability to develop maintainability analyses and supervise, review or witness maintainability demonstrations.
    • Ability to “market” RAMS engineering as a value-added tool.
    • Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary transit environment, and be able to identify and understand hazards within such an environment.

  • Marketing of System Safety and Certification capabilities to potential clients.
  • Further development of in-house System Safety Assurance and Certification capabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure work products, including plans, processes and analyses meet stated and implicit technical requirements
  • Ability to manage a variety of independent assignments
  • Able and willing to travel internationally
Requirements

The successful candidate shall possess the following combination of education, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
  • 10+ years of Rail/Transit Systems Experience with familiarity in System Safety Assurance and Certification at a senior level including:
    • Has acted in an Independent Safety Assessment role for reviewing the Safety Cases of others.
    • Experienced in the application of CENELEC Standards 50126, 50128 and 50129 within a full project lifecycle from planning, execution and delivery, to system acceptance.
    • Similarly experienced in the application of MIL-STD-882.
    • Familiarity with North American Standard and regulations (e.g. FRA regulations for Positive Train Control).
    • Must have the experience to work comfortably within a client’s System Assurance organisation either in a review and audit role or as a part of the team.
  • Professional Engineering license (P. Eng), or the ability to obtain certification or equivalent classification
  • Strong analytical skills including mathematics and statistics
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office and especially Word, Visio, Excel and Access

Position Independent Associate

Company Overview

Parker and Associates, Inc (PAI), a Delcan company, is seeking the services of Independent Associates to work on a part-time, as needed basis on both domestic and international projects. PAI is a mass transit consulting firm based in Kingston, Ontario Canada.  We have been in operation since 1986 and our staff and associates have experience in virtually all modes of ground transportation. 

PAI was acquired by Delcan Group Incorporated in October, 2007. This represents a major milestone in the development of PAI because it allows us to grow and to provide a greater range of services to our existing clients.
 
Responsibilities Will be based on specific project requirements and will likely include responsibilities such as  preparation and/or review of technical documentation, performance of independent assessment of transit-related practices and processes, systems engineering activities and technology reviews.
 
Requirements

You should be a registered Engineer or Technologist. PMP accreditation is an asset, but is not a requirement. We are looking for people with at least 15 years' experience in Railways, BRT, LRT, Subway, Commuter, High Speed Rail, and/or Freight Rail with vehicle manufacturers, transit authorities, subsystem suppliers or consulting firms.

The Independent Associate role will be of particular interest to recent retirees and to established independent consultants who wish to provide consulting services to an additional client. Potential Associates may perform tasks ranging from a few hours, to more extended periods of time, including short-term, full time assignments at various locations.

Key disciplines being sought include the following:
